Guided Sauna: Heat, With Intention
A winter ritual built for bodies that want structure and shared experience.
Winter slows us down. Our movement shifts, our rituals change. This season, we made space for something simpler and more embodied: guided sauna. We sat down with yoga and sound healing facilitator Valentina Ruiz to talk about guided sauna sessions at Framework.
Framework: What is guided sauna, exactly?
Valentina: Guided sauna is an immersive experience that invites you to slow down, tune in, and use heat as a tool for connection and release. It goes beyond simply sitting in the sauna, combining gentle movement, breathwork, and mindfulness to help the body adapt to the warmth while releasing tension and stress. Rather than pushing or forcing, the practice emphasizes listening to your body and moving with awareness. The heat becomes a supportive element for relaxation, circulation, and deeper connection. Sessions often include moments of stillness, reflection, and optional cold exposure to create a balanced and grounding experience for both body and mind.
Framework: Who is guided sauna for?
Valentina: Guided sauna is for anyone seeking a deeper, more intentional experience. It’s for those wanting to release soreness, tension, and stress—but also for anyone curious about slowing down and reconnecting with their body, including fitness enthusiasts who want to support recovery and improve mobility. No prior experience with sauna, movement, or breathwork is needed. The practice is accessible, adaptable, and guided with care, making it suitable for all bodies and all levels. Whether you’re seeking physical relief, mental clarity, or simply a moment to reset, guided sauna offers a space to meet yourself where you are, exactly as you are.
Framework: Why is guided sauna especially effective during winter?
Valentina: In winter, our bodies tend to be more exposed to cold, which can create muscle tension and reduce circulation. Alternating between the warmth of the sauna and the cold outside helps stimulate circulation, strengthen the cardiovascular system, and can also increase cold tolerance. Essentially, maintaining this balance allows the body to adapt better and recover more efficiently.
Framework: What a typical guided sauna session like, start to finish?
Valentina: A typical guided sauna session is a one-hour experience that begins with a gentle body scan, allowing us to notice how we’re feeling and arrive fully in the present moment. We then move into intentional breathwork, giving the body time to adjust to the heat so we can move safely and comfortably. From there, we flow through mindful movements focused on the spine, hips, and limbs—supporting mobility, flexibility, and the release of built-up tension for about 20 minutes. After the first portion, we take a short break to step into cold exposure or a cold plunge. This is always optional, and everyone is encouraged to listen to their own body and do what feels right. We then return to the sauna for a second, slower phase of the practice, where the focus shifts inward. Through breathwork, gentle stretching, and meditation, we create a grounded and calming experience—leaving you feeling balanced, relaxed, and deeply connected to your body.
Framework: If you’ve never experienced traditional sauna, or felt intimidated by it, why is guided sauna a good place to start?
Valentina: If you’re new to sauna or have felt intimidated by it, guided sauna is a supportive and approachable place to begin. You’re held throughout the experience by trained facilitators who offer clear guidance, options, and tools to help you feel safe, comfortable, and at ease. There’s no pressure to ‘do it right’ or push past your limits. You’re encouraged to move at your own pace, take breaks when needed, and listen to your body. So confidence and trust is built while experiencing the benefits of sauna in a gentle, accessible way.
Framework: What can people expect to notice after their first guided sauna session?
Valentina: After your first guided sauna session, many people notice less muscle soreness and tension, along with a greater sense of relaxation. You may feel looser in your body, calmer in your mind, and more grounded overall. Every body responds differently. Some people experience improved mobility, deeper breathing, or a subtle boost in energy while others simply feel deeply rested. Most leave feeling lighter, more balanced, and more connected to their body.
An hour you return to, week after week, with a trusted guide to move you through winter’s demands on the body. Book a guided sauna session.
